Replacing several missing teeth, within your budget

Several missing teeth can be replaced three ways: an individual implant for each tooth, an implant bridge where fewer implants carry a row of teeth, or an implant-retained denture. An implant bridge usually costs less than one implant per tooth. In Sunbury, expect $6,000 – $12,000+ for an implant bridge, over roughly three to six months. Suitability is confirmed at a free assessment.

Your options

Three ways to replace several teeth

Several missing teeth are rarely all the same problem. Where they sit, how many are gone, and the health of your gums and jawbone all shape the answer. In Sunbury we most often reach for one of three approaches, and there is no single right answer for everyone. We talk you through each in plain language at your assessment.

01

An implant for each tooth

The most thorough option, and the most costly. Every gap gets its own titanium root and crown, so each tooth stands on its own. It suits cases where the missing teeth are spread around the mouth rather than sitting in a single run.

02

An implant bridge

Two or more implants carry a row of replacement teeth, so you need fewer implants overall. Two implants can support a bridge of three teeth, with the middle tooth resting on the anchored ends. Because there are fewer implants, it usually costs less than one implant per tooth while staying fixed firmly in place.

03

An implant-retained denture

When a whole upper or lower jaw is affected, a denture can clip onto a small number of implants rather than one per tooth. It stays far more stable than a traditional plate. Where an entire jaw is missing, a fixed full-arch option may suit you better.

Candidacy

Are you suitable? The honest checklist

Most healthy adults missing several teeth are candidates. At your assessment we look at four things in particular:

  • Jawbone volume: each implant needs enough bone to anchor into. Where bone has shrunk, grafting can usually rebuild it
  • Gum health: active gum disease is treated first; implants placed into unhealthy gums fail more often
  • General health: uncontrolled diabetes and some medications affect healing and need managing, not hiding
  • Smoking: published implant studies report that smoking roughly doubles the risk of implant failure. We will not refuse smokers, but we will give you the numbers straight

Told “no” somewhere else? A previous knock-back, usually over bone loss, is not always the final word. Grafting techniques have moved on, and a proper 3D scan sometimes finds options a visual exam missed. The assessment is free, so a second look costs you nothing. Our guide explains how many implants your case is likely to need.

What happens

Three stages, no mystery

01

Assess

A free examination with 3D imaging. We map out which teeth to keep and which to replace, and you leave with a written quote and a clear plan. No pressure, no obligation, the plan is yours to take away.

02

Place

The titanium implants are placed under local anaesthetic, sometimes across more than one visit for a larger case. Most patients describe pressure, not pain. They then fuse with your bone over three to six months while you get on with life.

03

Restore

Your bridge, crowns or implant-retained denture are fitted and matched to the teeth around them. From there you clean them much like natural teeth, and we check everything at your regular visits.

The full picture

Risks and recovery, without the gloss

Placing dental implants is a surgical procedure that carries risks including infection, bleeding, nerve or sinus involvement, and implant failure, so suitability is always confirmed through an individual assessment with our AHPRA registered dentists. Replacing several teeth means more than one site to care for, which makes hearing the full picture before you decide all the more important.

The risks that matter

Infection at an implant site

The most common complication, largely preventable with good hygiene and aftercare. With more than one implant there is more to keep clean, but caught early it is usually simple to treat.

An implant failing to integrate

In a small percentage of cases the bone does not bond. Published studies link smoking, uncontrolled diabetes and gum disease to higher rates; a failed implant can usually be replaced after healing, and the others are unaffected.

Nerve or sinus involvement

Lower back teeth sit near a nerve, upper back teeth near the sinus, which is exactly why we plan on a 3D scan rather than a flat X-ray.

Gum recession around the teeth

Gums can recede over years, occasionally exposing an implant edge. Placement technique and gum health management reduce the risk.

Recovery, week by week

Days 1–3

Soreness and swelling peak. Over-the-counter pain relief, soft foods, cold compress. Most people work from day one or two.

Week 1

Swelling settles. Gentle brushing around each site. Any stitches dissolve or come out.

Weeks 2–4

The sites feel normal day to day. Eating returns to usual, still favouring the settled areas.

Months 2–6

The quiet phase, osseointegration. No ongoing pain; most patients forget it is happening until their teeth are fitted.

Every risk above is assessed for your case at the free assessment, in writing. Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks, and you can always seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner; we would rather you did than proceed unsure. Know your options

Individual implants, a bridge, or a partial denture?

An implant is rarely the only way to fill several gaps, and the most expensive plan is not always the right one. Here is the honest comparison we walk through at every assessment.

OptionFeel and stabilityLongevityUpfront cost
Individual implantsFixed, closest to natural teeth15+ years with careHighest
Implant bridgeFixed, fewer implants needed15+ years with careMedium
Partial dentureRemovable, rests on the gum5–8 years, then remadeLowest now

Published long-term studies report implant survival well beyond 15 years with good care, while a partial denture is usually remade every five to eight years. The honest version is longer than a table, including when a denture is the sensible first step. Read the full partial denture vs implant bridge comparison →

Local care

Why treatment close to home matters for implants

Replacing several teeth is not one appointment. It is an assessment, one or more placement visits, healing checks, fitting your bridge or teeth, and follow-ups over several months, sometimes staged over longer. When your clinic is ten minutes away rather than an hour, you actually attend those visits, small issues get caught while they are still small, and the people who placed your implants are the ones who look after them for the years that follow. That continuity matters even more when treatment is spread over time.

Quick answers

Multiple teeth implant questions

How can I replace several missing teeth?

The three usual options are an individual implant for each tooth, an implant bridge that uses fewer implants to carry a row of teeth, or an implant-retained denture for a whole jaw. Which one suits you depends on how many teeth are missing and your budget, decided at an individual assessment.

Is an implant bridge cheaper than individual implants?

Usually, yes. An implant bridge uses fewer implants to hold several teeth, so it generally costs less than placing one implant per tooth. As a guide it ranges from $6,000 to $12,000 or more (last reviewed July 2026), subject to individual assessment. The full price table sets out what each figure includes.

How many implants do I need for several missing teeth?

As a rough guide, two implants can support a bridge of three or four teeth, and a full jaw is usually restored with four to six implants rather than one per tooth. The exact number depends on your jawbone and which teeth are missing, confirmed with 3D imaging at your assessment.

Can I replace my most important teeth first and do the rest later?

Yes. Many people stage their treatment, replacing the teeth that most affect eating and confidence first, then completing the plan over time as budget allows. We keep your plan on file so each stage builds on the last. Our staged treatment guide explains how to do this without wasting money.

Should I choose a partial denture or an implant bridge?

A partial denture costs less and can be made quickly, but it is removable and rests on the gum. An implant bridge costs more upfront yet stays fixed and helps protect the jawbone. Neither is simply better; they suit different budgets. Some people start with a denture and move to implants later. Read the honest comparison →

Can I use my superannuation to pay for multiple teeth implants?

Some people apply to access their superannuation early for dental treatment. This is general information only. The ATO sets strict criteria and approval is not guaranteed, so you should get independent financial advice before relying on it. Our payment page explains the options for spreading the cost.
